What it’s made of
The PlushMat! uses a single layer of Australian-made high-density foam. Unlike memory foam, which softens with warmth and moulds to the body, high-density foam stays equally firm whatever the temperature. It supports your dog through its density rather than by moulding to its shape. Rover says the foam has been independently pressure tested for orthopaedic support and independently certified non-toxic, and publishes the test results on its website.
The foam is also made to resist rot and mould. That matters in humid coastal cities such as Sydney, Brisbane, Cairns and Darwin, where mould can grow inside some foam beds without being visible under the cover.
Covers come in more than 20 Warwick designer fabrics, Australian furniture-grade textiles that resist pilling, fraying and fading. The zip is hidden in a pocket, so there is no exposed zip to tempt chewers. All covers are removable and machine washable.
How it’s made
Rover Pet Products works from 2/148 Racecourse Road, Rutherford NSW 2320, a real workshop that offers local pickup for Hunter Valley customers. It publishes photos of staff sewing covers, cutting foam and assembling beds. This isn’t a drop-shipped or rebadged product: each PlushMat! is made from start to finish at that workshop.
It’s a small family business that has been making beds for more than 10 years. Rover says its products are used by government agencies in several states and territories.
Sizes and breed fit
| Size | Dimensions | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 71 × 45 × 8 cm | Toy and small breeds under 10 kg |
| Medium | 87 × 60 × 8 cm | Medium breeds of 10-20 kg |
| Large | 103 × 73 × 10 cm | Large breeds of 20-40 kg |
| Extra Large | 123 × 85 × 10 cm | Giant breeds of 40-80 kg |
At 10 cm, the foam is thinner than many imported beds (often 20 cm). But thickness isn’t the same as support: 10 cm of high-density foam can support a dog better than 20 cm of soft, low-density foam. The XL (123 × 85 cm) fits Great Danes, Bernese Mountain Dogs and other giant breeds. Rover also makes custom sizes on request, something imported brands can’t offer.
How long it lasts
The PlushMat! comes with a 5-year no-flatten guarantee, the strongest we’ve seen for a dog bed sold in Australia. The PlushMat! Plus extends this to 10 years. Rover has been making the PlushMat! for more than 10 years, so the guarantee is backed by a long track record.
The main weakness is the lack of waterproofing. Without a waterproof lining, drool, accidents or humidity can soak straight into the foam. If your dog drools a lot or is getting older, add a waterproof mattress protector or consider the PlushMat! Plus.
How it compares
FEANDREA PGW078G02 ($90-$130, Amazon AU): The closest competitor in size and purpose. The FEANDREA has memory foam, a waterproof TPU lining, bolster edges and a non-slip base, for around a third of the PlushMat!’s price. Over five years, one PlushMat! Large ($247 on sale, $330 full price when we checked in October 2026) costs about the same as three FEANDREA replacements at $320-$390.
Dazy Dog Memory Foam Bed ($150-$250): An Australian brand, but the beds are made overseas. The PlushMat! is the only one of these that’s actually made in Australia.
StormHero XL ($65-$85, Amazon AU): At a quarter of the price or less, the StormHero is the budget option. The PlushMat! makes sense once you know your dog benefits from an orthopaedic bed and you want one that will last.
What it costs over five years
| Bed | Price | Lifespan | Cost per year | 5-year total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rover PlushMat! Large | $247–$330 | 5 years (guaranteed) | $49–$66/year | $247–$330 |
| FEANDREA PGW078G02 (×3) | $106 each | 18-24 months | $53-$71/year | $265-$353 |
| StormHero XL (×4) | $65 each | 12-18 months | $43-$65/year | $217-$325 |
Over five years the PlushMat! costs roughly the same as repeatedly replacing a cheaper imported bed, not less. You pay more up front for an Australian-made bed with a 5-year guarantee, rather than to save money.
Care and cleaning
Weekly: Remove the cover and machine wash it on a cool cycle. Don’t wash the foam; spot-clean it with a damp cloth if needed.
Every three months: Air the foam outside in the shade for 2 to 4 hours. Check the cover’s stitching and zip pocket.
Once a year: Turn the bed around so your dog lies on a different part of the foam, and check for any flattening where it sleeps most.
After five years: Many owners report 7 to 10 years of use. You can buy replacement covers from Rover, which freshens up the bed without replacing the foam.
Large breeds that are prone to joint problems and may benefit from this bed include the Golden Retriever, Labrador Retriever and Bernese Mountain Dog.

Is the Rover PlushMat! really made in Australia?+
Yes. It's made in Rutherford, in the Hunter Valley, NSW, by a small family business. It carries the Australian Made logo through the Australian Made Campaign, Rover publishes photos of its workshop, and you can pick up locally. We haven't found another orthopaedic dog bed that's actually manufactured in Australia; other brands that sound Australian are usually designed here and made overseas.
How does the 5-year no-flatten guarantee work?+
If the foam flattens or loses its support within 5 years of purchase under normal use, Rover Pet Products will replace the bed. The guarantee covers the foam only, not wear on the cover, stains or damage from chewing. Rover has been in business for more than 10 years, which gives some confidence it will be around to honour a long guarantee.
Why is the Rover PlushMat! more expensive than beds on Amazon?+
Three things push the price up: Australian-made high-density foam (about three times the cost of imported foam), local manufacturing wages, and Warwick furniture-grade cover fabric. Spread over the 5-year guarantee, a Large works out at about $49 to $66 a year (sale to full price), similar to replacing a $65 to $106 imported bed every 12 to 24 months. For that you get certified non-toxic, mould-resistant foam that lasts far longer than imported alternatives.
Is the Rover PlushMat! waterproof?+
No. The cover keeps dirt and hair off the foam, but it doesn't stop drool, accidents or spills soaking in. If your dog is older or drools a lot, add a waterproof mattress protector, or consider the PlushMat! Plus, which has built-in waterproofing and two sides for warm and cool weather, at a higher price.
Can I order a custom-sized Rover PlushMat! for a crate or awkward space?+
Yes. Because it's made in Australia, Rover Pet Products can make PlushMat! beds to fit specific crates, enclosures or spaces. Email info@roverpetproducts.com.au or use the chat on their website for a quote. Imported bed brands generally can't offer custom sizes.
