ThinkPets is a publishing website. We do not sell products, we do not operate accounts, and we do not sell or rent personal information to anyone. We collect very little personal information directly.

01 — Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Wave Rock Global (ABN 36 397 426 136) trading as ThinkPets (ThinkPets, we, us, our) collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information in connection with the website at thinkpets.com.au (the Site).

We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We have chosen to apply the APPs to our operations as a baseline standard, whether or not we are an APP entity at any given time.

By using the Site, you agree to your personal information being handled as described in this Policy.

02 — What is personal information

“Personal information” means information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable, whether or not the information is true and whether or not it is recorded in a material form.

Some information described in this Policy — such as an IP address or an advertising identifier — may or may not be personal information depending on the circumstances. We treat it as personal information where there is a reasonable prospect it could identify you.

03 — Information you provide to us

We collect personal information you choose to give us:

WhereWhat we collectWhy
Email enquiriesYour name, email address, and anything you include in your messageTo respond and keep a record of the correspondence
Access, correction or complaint requestsYour name, contact details, and information sufficient to identify the matterTo assess and respond as required by the Privacy Act
Comments or feedback, where enabledName or display name, email address, comment content, IP addressTo publish, moderate and prevent spam
Newsletter subscription, where offeredEmail address and any preferences you provideTo send you the material you asked for

You do not have to give us this information, but if you do not, we may be unable to respond to you.

04 — Information collected automatically

When you visit the Site, the following is collected automatically:

  • Server and security logs (via our hosting provider): IP address, date and time of request, requested URL, HTTP status, referring page, browser user-agent, and bandwidth used. Used for delivering the Site, diagnosing faults, and detecting abuse and attacks.
  • Analytics data: pages viewed, time on page, scroll and click events, entry and exit pages, approximate location derived from IP address (usually city or region level), device type, operating system, browser, screen size, language, and referral source.
  • Search performance data: aggregated and anonymised data about search queries that led to the Site, received from Google Search Console. This is not identifiable to you.
  • Advertising identifiers and cookies: where the Site displays advertising, third-party networks may set cookies or read identifiers to select and measure advertisements.

4.1 The Compatibility Assessment

The Compatibility Assessment asks you to select parameters such as living environment, daily daily activity, experience level, household configuration and annual budget range.

These selections are processed within your browser to generate the on-screen result. We do not require you to identify yourself to use the tool, and the tool does not create a user account or profile for you.

Your interactions with the tool may be recorded as analytics events in the same way as other on-site interactions. Where that occurs, the events are used in aggregate to understand how the tool is used, not to build an individual profile.

4.2 Affiliate link tracking

When you click an outbound commercial link on the Site, the destination merchant or its affiliate network may set a cookie or record an identifier on their own systems in order to attribute any subsequent transaction to us.

That tracking is performed by the merchant or network, on their systems, under their privacy policy — not by us. We receive only aggregated reporting: for example, that a click occurred and whether a qualifying transaction resulted. We do not receive your name, address, payment details, or the itemised contents of your order.

4.3 Sensitive information

We do not seek and do not knowingly collect sensitive information as defined in the Privacy Act — including health information, racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, sexual orientation, criminal record, or biometric data. Please do not include sensitive information in messages to us.

Information about an animal in your care is not personal information about you, and we do not collect it in an identified form.

05 — Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device. The Site uses:

  • (a) Strictly necessary cookies — required for the Site to function, for security, and to remember your cookie preferences. These cannot be switched off.
  • (b) Analytics cookies — used to measure how the Site is used so we can improve it.
  • (c) Advertising cookies — where advertising is displayed, used by third-party networks to select advertisements, limit repetition and measure performance. These may be used for personalised advertising based on your browsing across other sites.
  • (d) Third-party affiliate cookies — set by merchants and affiliate networks when you click an outbound commercial link, as described in Section 4.2.

Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

We do not currently respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals, because there is no agreed standard for how they should be interpreted. Where the Site presents a cookie consent control, your choice in that control governs the setting of non-essential cookies.

06 — Third-party services we use

The following third parties process information in connection with the Site. Each operates under its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to read.

07 — Why we collect and use personal information

We use personal information for the following purposes:

  • to operate, secure, maintain and improve the Site;
  • to respond to your enquiries, complaints and access or correction requests;
  • to understand how the Site is used, in aggregate, so we can improve content and structure;
  • to display and measure advertising, and to measure affiliate referral performance;
  • to detect, investigate and prevent fraud, abuse, spam and security incidents;
  • to send you material you have subscribed to, where applicable; and
  • to comply with our legal obligations and to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

We will not use your personal information for a purpose other than those described, or a purpose you would reasonably expect, unless you consent or we are permitted or required by law.

08 — Automated processing and decision-making

The Compatibility Assessment and our published scoring frameworks apply fixed, pre-defined rules to inputs and to our own dataset. They produce general information outputs.

We do not use personal information to make automated decisions that have a legal or similarly significant effect on you. We do not use automated processing to determine eligibility, price, creditworthiness, insurance, employment or access to any service.

Advertising displayed on the Site may be selected automatically by third-party networks based on their own profiling. Where that occurs, it is governed by the network’s privacy policy and can be limited using the controls in Section 05.

09 — Direct marketing

If you subscribe to updates, we will send you only the material you asked for. Every marketing message we send will identify us and will contain a functional unsubscribe facility, consistent with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Unsubscribe requests are actioned promptly and in any event within 5 business days.

We do not supply your contact details to third parties for their own marketing.

To ask what personal information we hold about you for direct marketing purposes, or to opt out of all marketing, contact us using the details in Section 17.

10 — Disclosure of personal information

We disclose personal information only:

  • to the service providers listed in Section 06, for the purposes described;
  • to our professional advisers (legal, accounting, insurance) under duties of confidentiality;
  • where required or authorised by law, including in response to a valid request from a court, regulator or law enforcement agency;
  • where necessary to establish, exercise or defend a legal claim, or to protect the safety, rights or property of any person; and
  • to a purchaser or prospective purchaser in connection with a sale or transfer of the business or the Site, subject to confidentiality obligations and to this Policy continuing to apply.

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.

11 — Overseas disclosure

Several of the service providers listed in Section 06 store or process data outside Australia. This means your personal information may be disclosed to overseas recipients located in, among other places:

  • the United States (Google, Amazon, and most advertising and analytics infrastructure);
  • member states of the European Union and the United Kingdom; and
  • other countries in which those providers or their sub-processors operate data centres or support functions.

Before disclosing personal information to an overseas recipient, we take steps that are reasonable in the circumstances to ensure the recipient does not breach the APPs, principally by selecting established providers that publish binding privacy commitments and contractual data protection terms. However, you should be aware that the privacy laws of those countries may differ from Australian law, and that in some circumstances we may not be able to enforce those commitments or ensure a remedy under Australian law.

12 — Security and data breaches

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference and loss, and from unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Measures include HTTPS encryption in transit, access controls and multi-factor authentication on administrative accounts, maintained software and platform components, and hosting with a provider that maintains its own security controls and backups.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, and you provide information to us at your own risk.

Notifiable Data Breaches

If we become aware of unauthorised access to, disclosure of, or loss of personal information that is likely to result in serious harm, we will contain and assess the incident promptly and, consistent with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as soon as practicable.

13 — Retention and destruction

We retain personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by law.

CategoryIndicative retention
Email correspondence2 years from last contact, then deleted
Comments, where enabledWhile the comment remains published, or until removal is requested

When personal information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to destroy it or ensure it is de-identified.

14 — Anonymity and pseudonymity

You may browse the Site without identifying yourself. Where you deal with us — for example, to make an enquiry — you may use a pseudonym, unless it is impracticable for us to deal with you on that basis or we are required by law to deal with an identified individual.

15 — Children

The Site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

16 — Accessing and correcting your personal information

Access. You may request access to the personal information we hold about you. We will respond within 30 days. Access is free, although we may charge a reasonable cost-recovery fee for a request that requires substantial effort, and we will tell you the amount before proceeding. We may refuse access in the limited circumstances permitted by the Privacy Act, and if we do, we will give you written reasons and tell you how to complain.

Correction. If information we hold is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete, irrelevant or misleading, you may ask us to correct it. We will correct it, or if we decline, give you written reasons and note your request against the record on request.

Deletion. You may ask us to delete personal information we hold about you. We will do so unless we are required to retain it by law or need it to resolve a dispute or enforce our agreements.

To make a request, contact us using the details in Section 17. We may need to verify your identity before acting.

18 — Visitors from outside Australia

The Site is directed at users in Australia and is hosted and administered under Australian law. If you access the Site from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your information on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating and improving an information website, on your consent where consent is sought for non-essential cookies or marketing, and to comply with legal obligations. You may have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability under local law; contact us using the details in Section 17 and we will deal with your request in good faith.

19 — Third-party websites

This Policy applies only to the Site. Once you follow a link to a merchant, advertiser or other third-party website, this Policy no longer applies and the operator of that site is responsible for how it handles your information. We encourage you to read their privacy policy before providing personal information.

20 — Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. The current version is always available at thinkpets.com.au/privacy-policy/ and is identified by the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Where a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to bring it to your attention. Your continued use of the Site after a change is published constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
