What ThinkPets is — and is not
We publish general information about dog breeds, ownership costs and pet products for Australian owners. Nothing on this site is veterinary advice, financial product advice or insurance advice. For your own dog, talk to your vet. Costs and fees we publish are indicative and change over time; always confirm with the provider before you pay.
How our product reviews are made
Our gear reviews and comparisons are research-based, not hands-on tests. We have not physically tested the products we review. Each rating is an editorial judgement drawn from:
- published manufacturer specifications and materials information
- independent certifications and test results the manufacturer publishes, where available
- patterns in verified owner reviews on Australian retail sites
- Australian price, availability and warranty terms at the date shown on the review
Scores such as “76/100” are our editorial ratings on that basis. They are not laboratory measurements. Where a review says a product was “pressure tested” or “certified”, that refers to testing reported by the manufacturer or a third party, not by us. More detail is on our methodology page.
How we are funded
Some links on this site go to retailers, including Amazon Australia, Pet Circle and Petstock. Links to retailers are marked as sponsored. Where we have an active affiliate arrangement with a retailer, we may earn a commission if you buy through our link, at no extra cost to you. Not every retailer link earns us anything, and whether it does has no bearing on our ratings.
We do not accept payment from brands to review a product, to change a rating or to appear in a comparison. We do not have, and do not accept, affiliate arrangements with insurers or financial product providers.
Data sources
Breed health, cost and care information is compiled from published veterinary literature, breed club and welfare organisation material, and Australian retail and council sources, as noted on each page. Council fee data links to each council’s own published fee page with the date we checked it.
