In Queensland every council sets its own dog registration fee, and you pay every year. In Brisbane, a desexed dog costs $48.50 for the first year and $64.55 a year after that. A dog that isn’t desexed costs about three times as much. Dogs must be registered from 12 weeks of age.

Register with your local council, online or at a customer service centre. Have your dog’s microchip number and proof of desexing ready to get the lower fee. Your council posts a registration tag, which your dog should wear.
How many dogs can I keep?
Many Queensland councils, including Brisbane and the Gold Coast, require a permit to keep three or more dogs on a property. Check your council’s local laws before getting a third dog.
